Sheffield Wednesday fans are suffering under the ownership of Dejphon Chansiri, with key players exiting Hillsborough.
Electric winger Anthony Musaba joined Samsunspor on a four-year contract last week, and his exit was closely followed by Djeidi Gassama moving to Rangers for £2.2 million.
After scoring seven Championship goals in 2024/25, Sheffield Wednesday fans were annoyed at Gassama’s transfer fee as they felt he could command an eight-figure sum in the coming years.
The 21-year-old’s departure from Hillsborough after just two campaigns was the latest in a long list of reasons to feel anger towards Dejphon Chansiri, who continues to bleed the club of any positivity.
While Gassama is excited about the prospect of playing European football next season, Sheffield Wednesday legend Barry Bannan has already sent a warning to Rangers.

The Owls’ faithful will miss the speed and trickery of Gassama flying down the wing in 2025/26, but for all of his excitement, the 2003-born star still has a lot to learn.
As a young player, his decision-making needs to fully develop, and his quality in the final third must improve, which is something former teammate Bannan was keen to point out in an interview with the Daily Record.
“I’d say the Rangers fans are probably still going to have to be patient with him because he’s still a young boy, only 21,” Bannan said.
“I know that’s probably not young in football terms but he’s still got a lot to learn. He’s not shy. He’s a lovely kid who just wants to have a good laugh.
“There will be games where you’ll be frustrated with him – and then there’ll be games where you think, ‘Wow, we’ve got some player on our hands here. He has got some serious potential and last season we saw that at Wednesday.
Bannan, however, did suggest that Gassama will be a ‘very good signing’ for the Gers if he improves his ‘consistency’.
“He may not have finished the season as strongly as he’d have wanted but he did play a lot of games last year for someone of such a young age – and he was brilliant. If he can find a bit of consistency then it’ll be a very, very good signing for Rangers.”
Possible replacement for Gassama
With Sheffield Wednesday placed under a transfer embargo, the Owls can only sign players on a free transfer or on loan without a fee involved.
So, when scouring the market for a Gassama replacement, perhaps Sheffield Wednesday should look at Tottenham’s Yang Min-hyeok.
The 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers and impressed Marti Cifuentes.
But the South Korean could benefit from a full campaign in the Championship, something Sheffield Wednesday could provide him, as well as a shot at regular first-team football.
