Customers of WightFibre in Ventnor, Godshill and Wroxall were without an Internet connection this morning (Thursday) for more than an hour.
WightFibre say the fault was caused by a “faulty uninterruptible power supply unit in the Ventnor exchange”. This was replaced and service to affected customers is now restored.
When OnTheWight asked how many customers were affected, a spokesperson for WightFibre replied,
“There are only 1,100 customers connected on that exchange, so very little compared to the nearly 26,000 total customers.”
The loss of service caused quite an impact for customers such as Ventnor Exchange, who are in the process of organising the ten-day Ventnor Fringe Festival that starts tomorrow (Friday), as well as businesses who rely on their fibre connection for taking card payments.
The WightFibre spokesperson went on to say,
“It was also identified and restored in just over an hour. Most of that time was to take the replacement equipment from Cowes to Ventnor. A very small loss of service caused by equipment out of our control and resolved extremely quickly.”
