Canelo Alvarez is unlikely to face a heavy hitter, according to a skilled fighter.

On September 13, the superstar will go to war with Terence Crawford at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

While many are writing ‘Bud’ off, Bernard Hopkins says Crawford can beat Canelo.

Regardless, if the Mexican wins the bout, a former world champion would be shocked if he agrees to face one of the most dangerous competitors in the sport.

WOW: What happened when Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin sparred years before their trilogy?

On July 12, Hamzah Sheeraz destroyed Edgar Berlanga, knocking the American out in the fifth round.

With the heavy-handed fighter having produced such a tremendous performance, Paulie Malignaggi thinks Canelo Alvarez will steer clear of facing the Brit.

In a video uploaded to the Boxing Scene YouTube channel, he said: “Personally, I don’t think Canelo will want a piece of a guy like this.

“Canelo’s mindset of late, especially in recent years, has been to avoid the very dangerous guys and fight these mid-range contenders, where the names are respectable, but it’s not the biggest threat.

“Sheeraz, by doing what he just did, especially because Canelo has been in the ring with Berlanga and doesn’t have to fight anybody he doesn’t want to fight, he’s got that kind of name and reputation and he’s allowed to get away with it, I’m not sure how much you would have to pay him to make him fight Sheeraz.”

Three-weight world champion says Canelo will retire rather than face Hamzah Sheeraz

Malignaggi isn’t the only one who thinks Canelo won’t face Sheeraz.

A retired legend was equally impressed by the Englishman’s display over the weekend.

Following the fight, the icon said Canelo will ‘retire’ rather than face Sheeraz.
