Leeds United supporters will be looking forward to seeing their new signings in Premier League action next month.

The Peacocks have already completed several deals, with Jaka Bijol among the arrivals at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s side will kick off their campaign with an intriguing home clash against David Moyes’ Everton on 18 August.

However, Leeds fans are not going to be able to see Bijol play in the season opener after the latest news.

Paul Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News that Bijol will have to fight the likes of Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon for a place in Farke’s team.

However, no such fight will take place for the opening game because Bijol will be serving a suspension.

The 26-year-old received a red card in his final Serie A match last season, which will carry over into the new Premier League campaign.

“The fact that it is two yellow cards closes off any ability for Leeds United to appeal,” said former referee Keith Hackett, speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News.

“FIFA the governing body are considering putting a proposal to the IFAB that second yellow cards can be reviewed by VAR.

“The difficulty I foresee is what if the first yellow is the controversial incident and incorrect?

“That is the gap that I see in the proposal.”

While the news of the Slovenian international’s absence is a blow, it offers a unique opportunity to the rest of Farke’s defensive contingent.

Ampadu, Rodon, and Pascal Struijk are all vying for a place in the German’s team, but their places are in doubt because of Bijol.

Now, one or more of them are set to be handed an audition to shine against the Toffees at Elland Road.

Of course, it would take more than one game for any of them to prove their top-flight capabilities.

However, if any of them perform well, then they will give Farke something to think about moving forward.
