It is now less than two weeks until we get to see Field Of Gold again. I don’t know about you, but I’m already excited.
I was in the Racing Post office on day one of Royal Ascot for his sensational performance in the St James’s Palace Stakes. When Colin Keane “flicked the switch”, as he put it in his subsequent interview with my colleague David Jennings, there was the most enormous collective gasp. This incredible horse able to drop the jaws of people who have been following the sport for longer than I’ve been alive. It was a privilege just to watch.
It prompted me to ask my friends for their favourite ever ‘wow’ moment in racing. While going back to relive them first hand is a distant Back To The Future pipe dream, just writing about them is enough to make the hairs stand up.
