The most dangerous junctions in Liverpool have been revealed. Merseyside Road Safety Partnership visited four junctions in Liverpool yesterday (Thursday, July 17) which have been identified as the most high-risk “collision hot spots” across the city.

Representatives from Merseyside Police, Liverpool City Council, and road safety professionals came together to carry out site assessments at Innovation Boulevard, Childwall Valley Road, Smithdown Road, and Bold Street. Each location was selected based on collision data provided by analysts.

The aim of the joint visit was to explore what practical changes could be made to reduce risk and improve safety in these key locations.

The team reviewed the layout, infrastructure, signage, traffic flow, and road user behaviours at each site, before agreeing on a series of actions to tackle identified issues.

Merseyside Police, Chief Inspector Steve Robinson said: “A really productive day with our partners today, where we were joined by Liverpool City Council, local councillors and neighbourhood managers.

“We’ve visited four collision hotspots across the city, guided by collision data. We’ve seen lots of positive activity at all four junctions and have taken a number of actions to begin improvements to safety at these locations.

“Our next steps are to get working on what we’ve identified here today but we’re also asking the public to contribute to our work by submitting localised intelligence through the Merseyside Road Safety Partnership website.

“Our enforcement activity and partnership work is community-driven, and we need this vital information to act upon. This intelligence guides our enforcement decisions and empowers us with knowledge for wider partnership activity and long-term intervention.”

Work on improvements at the four locations will now progress with support from all partners, ensuring that actions are not only identified, but delivered, police said.

Vehicles making U-turns, resulting in pedestrians and cyclists being hit, or vehicles pulling out at side junctions are just some of the incidents that have resulted in recurring incidents at these junctions. Vehicles pulling out of a side road and pedestrians crossing the roads, are some of the other reasons.

Bold Street however, was reported as the junction that causes Merseyside Police the most problems. Reporter Megan Banner visited Liverpool’s most dangerous roads on Thursday with Merseyside Police, you can read more about it here.
