Coun Mike McCusker, Salford council’s transport lead, said the move is part of a region-wide scheme.
“This is all part of the Greater Manchester Clean Air plan to address nitrogen dioxide exceedances on the roads, to improve the flow of traffic, reducing emissions from drivers speeding up and slowing down,” he said.
Regent Road is a busy area of Salford, surrounded by a number of businesses as well as homes in Ordsall.
Other measures are also being planned along the road to help keep cars moving during periods with heavy traffic.
Coun McCusker added: “We have recently consulted on putting in yellow box junction cameras on Regent Road to prevent blockages at major junctions and help keep traffic flowing.”
