Birmingham’s biggest nightclub could ditch whisky for weights and become an unlikely home for fitness lovers.

With a capacity of 2,500, Pryzm was Birmingham’s biggest nightclub, boasting three floors and four music rooms.

The building was formerly Gatecrasher nightclub which closed in 2015 after a stabbing.

Pryzm would take over in 2016, installing airport-style detectors at entrances for enhanced security.

The nightclub chain closed on Broad Street last year over financial difficulties which resulted in the closure of all UK venues.

Parent company Rekom UK confirmed administrators were called in and the space could be set for a new era.

A planning application has been submitted to transform the building into a PureGym.

PureGym already has a location on Broad Street but the Pryzm site would provide a bigger venue and space.

There are currently eight PureGyms in Birmingham with a ninth in Edgbaston opening on August 15.

With Pryzm and Players closed, Broad Street has lost two significant nightclubs, but Snobs and Barbara’s Bier Haus include recent additions to the nightlife street.

A PureGym spokesperson said: “At PureGym, we are always looking for exciting new venues to give our members the best possible experience when working out.

“If we do go ahead with a location change, the new gym would provide a vibrant new gym space and we would work closely with members of PureGym Birmingham City Centre to ensure a smooth transition of location.”
