LIV Golf’s Joaquin Niemann couldn’t hide his frustration after missing out on the cut at The Open.

The Chilean is often seen as an outsider for the majors, but after failing to make it to the weekend, he stamped on his bag.

After the first round, Niemann was one under par and looked well set to at least make the cut.

But his round two started badly and he never recovered.

On hole one, which is a par four, the LIV Golf star recorded a horrible double bogey.

That immediately put him on the backfoot despite the fact he claimed a birdie on hole four.

Unfortunately for Niemann, four further bogeys followed across the round, including one on the final hole that sealed his fate.

At that point, he still had a chance of making the cut at one over par, but that bogey ensured he finished on two over, meaning he missed out.

It was the latest in a long line of disappointing performances at majors for Niemann.

The Chilean’s highest finish is joint eighth at the PGA Championship earlier this year.

Before that, it was 16th at the 2023 Masters, and he must now wait until next spring to try and change that record.

It is now two consecutive missed cuts and one top-ten finish in 26 major appearances for Niemann.

Niemann must be baffled how he hasn’t been able to translate his LIV Golf form to the majors.

He has won four tournaments this year and will probably continue winning them as well.

But it was clear that after another failure at one of the big events, he couldn’t hide his frustrations and chose violence against his bag.

Niemann wasn’t the only big name to miss the cut as Colin Morikawa and Brooks Koepka also crashed out.

Open champion in 2021, Morikawa endured two rounds to forget, finishing on seven over par.

And Koepka also missed out, meaning he’s failed to make Saturday at three of the four majors this year, which is a fall from grace for the American.

Elsewhere, it’s been a great couple of days for the European Ryder Cup team.

The entirety of Luke Donald‘s side have all made the cut, with Matt Fitzpatrick one shot off the lead.

Home favourites Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are also still in contention for the Claret Jug.
