OMAGH is once again showing its community spirit and support for local enterprise as the High Street Heroes NI 2025 campaign officially launches across Northern Ireland.
Spearheaded by Retail NI in partnership with Allwyn, SSE Airtricity, Gig Grafter and supported locally by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, this initiative shines a well-deserved spotlight on independent retailers, the heartbeat of our high streets.
In today’s challenging economic climate, campaigns like High Street Heroes NI remind us of the importance of shopping local. Every pound spent in a local shop helps sustain jobs, supports producers, and keeps our communities thriving. It’s not just a transaction – it’s an investment in the future of Omagh.
Glyn Roberts, chief executive of Retail NI, captured the spirit of the campaign.
“Independent retail is the lifeblood of communities across Northern Ireland. These awards are the biggest celebration of our local retail sector, and this year’s campaign is set to be our biggest yet.”
Locals are being urged to “vote early and vote often” for their favourite businesses across 13 community-driven categories – from best café to top fashion retailer. Voting opened on July 4, fittingly symbolising independence and resilience – two values deeply rooted in our local high streets.
Vice-chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Shirley Hawkes, offered strong encouragement.
“Independent retailers and local businesses are the cornerstone of towns and villages across the Fermanagh and Omagh District, supporting jobs, the local economy and local community.
“The High Street Heroes campaign is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the impact of independent retailers and businesses in local communities. I encourage people to get involved and vote for their local independent retailer.”
This year also introduces a Winners Hall of Fame, celebrating consistent champions who have gone above and beyond since the campaign’s launch in 2020. While they take a step back from competition this year, it opens the door for new local heroes to rise.
Now more than ever, Omagh residents are encouraged to back the businesses that make our town special. Whether it’s your favourite bakery, trusted butcher, stylish boutique or welcoming café, your vote can make a real difference.
Let’s show Northern Ireland what Omagh is made of – community strength, loyalty, and a passion for supporting our own.
Cast your vote today and be part of the movement. Support local. Shop local. Celebrate local.
