The 2025 Citi DC Open WTA draw has been revealed, with Emma Raducanu confirmed to have a chance to avenge her Madrid Open loss from May.

The WTA 500 event represents the first opportunity for the players to gain crucial hard-court matches ahead of the final Grand Slam of the year.

Last year, the Brit reached the last eight – falling to Paula Badosa in a tight three-set clash.

Badosa then went on to beat Marie Bouzkova 6–1, 4–6, 6–4 in the final to claim her fourth career title.

Raducanu will open up her Washington campaign against Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, whom she lost to 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in the Spanish capital earlier this season. Overall, their head-to-head stands at 2-1 in Kostyuk’s favour.

The 2021 US Open champion did manage to be victorious against the Ukrainian at the clay-court event three years prior via a dominant 6-2, 6-1 performance.

Should Raducanu’s bid for revenge be successful, she would then face either Yulia Putintseva or – more interestingly – former Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.

Curiously, the world No 45 hasn’t faced off against either woman before.

The Kazakh has won just one match in the last two months, whilst Osaka last reached the last 32 at Wimbledon.

In the quarter-finals, the Brit would likely face American Emma Navarro, with Maria Sakkari and fellow countrywoman Katie Boulter as other options.

Raducanu’s match was a highly entertaining 7-6(8), 6-4 loss to world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka at Wimbledon.

Clara Tauson and Magda Linette are the two seeds in the other section of the bottom half, as the fourth and eighth seeds, respectively.

In the top half, Jessica Pegula, who leads the way as the tournament’s highest seed, will open against either Leylah Fernandez or Maya Joint, after receiving a first-round bye.

Sixth seed Sofia Kenin likely lies in waiting in the quarter-finals for the world No 4.

In the other section of the top half, Elena Rybakina benefits from an opening-round bye, will begin her campaign against either Victoria Mboko or Anastasia Potapova.

For the 2022 Wimbledon champion, Magdalena Frech – the Citi DC Open’s fifth seed – is her projected quarter-final opponent.

Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams will return to the WTA Tour, after a 16-month absence, against Peyton Stearns – landing in Frech’s quarter. The American last won a match in Cincinnati in 2023, and, most recently, competed at Indian Wells in 2024.
