Rail operators are warning that services may be delayed or cancelled this afternoon after a person was sadly hit by a train in the North East. To allow emergency services carry out their work, all lines between Darlington and Newcastle are currently closed.
A number or rail companies are experiencing disruption, including LNER, TransPennine Express, Lumo, and CrossCountry. Disruption is expected until 5pm today.
LNER is advising passengers that trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. While TransPennine Express is informing passengers that train services travelling in the impacted area will be cancelled or delayed.
Lumo is reporting delays of up to 90 minutes. And CrossCountry states that train services running Darlington and Newcastle may be cancelled or delayed by up to 120 minutes.
Passengers are advised to check their journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.
A statement on the National Rail website said: “A person has been hit by a train between Darlington and Newcastle. Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed. Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until 17:00.”
