At the UniCredit Iasi Open final, Irina‑Camelia Begu delivered a stellar performance in front of her home crowd, defeating Swiss player Jil Teichmann on clay with a convincing scoreline of 6‑0, 7‑5. This victory marks Begu’s sixth career title, her first since 2022, and her third consecutive clay‑court trophy

This triumph in Romania will see her return to the WTA Top 100. She will climb 28 places in the rankings, rising to world No. 82 – her best position since April 2025.

Begu controlled the match from start to finish, finishing with 25 winners compared to just 9 for Teichmann. The Swiss player was hampered by injuries – notably strapping on her left thigh and right knee – and clearly was not at her best on the Iasi clay.

In particular, Teichmann struggled with her second serve, winning just 35 % of those points (6/17), which Begu capitalized on brilliantly. Begu produced a flawless first set, bagelling her opponent.

In the second set, Teichmann showed more fight, breaking to lead 4‑2 before being overtaken by the Romanian. This win marks Begu’s second title on home soil, having previously triumphed in Bucharest in 2017.
