A man has died after being hit by a vehicle on the M60 on Sunday afternoon (July 20), the Manchester Evening News understands.
The motorway was closed off in both directions following the fatal incident near J20. Police, fire crews and paramedics raced to the scene and recovered the body of a man following a ‘welfare incident’.
Traffic built in the area, with the large closure put in place between junctions 19 and 21. The Bee Network and National Highways also issued delay warnings to those heading to the final Oasis gig at Heaton Park.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the motorway likely to remain closed throughout Sunday evening. No further details have been confirmed,
Greater Manchester Police also warned of delays as they confirmed they were called to a serious incident close to J20 for Alkrington. Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance.
Diversion routes were put in place by National Highways teams for those trapped in the closure.

The Bee Network issued a statement to motorists and Oasis fans, which read: “Due to a serious road traffic collision on the M60 J20. Part of the motorway is currently closed causing significant delays on roads in the area. This may impact your journey to Heaton Park for the Oasis concert.”
A statement shared by National Highways read: “The M60 in Greater Manchester is closed in both directions, clockwise between J19 Rhodes Interchange (Middleton, Manchester (Cen) A576) and J21 Broadway Interchange (Chadderton A663). Anti-clockwise is closed between J22 Holinwood Interchange (Oldham, Failsworth A62) and J19.
“This is due to a serious incident which has occurred within the J20 Alkrington Interchange (Blackley, Moston A664) Greater Manchester Police are leading the response to the incident and it is expected the road will be closed for a protracted period.
“North West Ambulance Service have also attended the incident. National Highways Traffic Officers are in attendance and assisting with traffic management.”
