The Glasgow Subway was suspended in both directions on this afternoon (July 20) following an emergency “customer incident”.

Emergency personnel raced to the scene as Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) announced both the Inner and Outer Circles were closed at around 4.45pm.

The Subway operator apologised for inconvenience to passengers and said it would update customers when the Subway reopens, reports Glasgow Live.

In a statement to the Glasgow Subway’s social media channels, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport said: “Apologies all, both Inner and Outer Circles are currently suspended due to a customer incident.

“Emergency services are in attendance. We will update when services resume. Apologies for the inconvenience.”

British Transport Police has been contacted for more information.

SPT announced the Subway had resumed around 5.21pm.

In February this year, in a separate incident, we reported that a woman died after an incident at a Glasgow subway station.

Emergency crews were called to a medical incident at Bridge Street subway station, in Tradeston, on Wednesday, February 20.

British Transport Police were also alerted to an ongoing incident at 1.30pm. Despite efforts from paramedics, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The station was closed off to the public while the incident unfolded.

“Officers attended alongside paramedics. Unfortunately, a lady was pronounced deceased.”

A SAS spokesperson added: “We received a call at 12:39 to attend an incident at Bridge Street Station, Glasgow.

“We dispatched two ambulances and one critical care paramedic (CCP) to the scene.”
