SPT revealed that the axed services were sparked by an ongoing “customer incident”.

It is currently unclear what the “customer incident” involves, but police have been contacted.

Emergency services are currently at the scene.

Subway chiefs apologised for the inconvenience and have said they will notify customers when the services are back up and running.

Bosses announced the suspended services on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The post read: “Apologies all, both Inner and Outer Circles are currently suspended due to a customer incident.

“Emergency services are in attendance.

“Will update when services resume.

“Apologies for the inconvenience.”

Commuters have been left worried about getting home from the city this evening as heavy downpours and thunderstorms batter the central belt.

Glasgow Subway closes earlier on Sunday at around 6.12pm, with the last train leaving from St. Enoch station at 6.03pm and from Govan at 5.50pm.

Bosses posted an update on social media shortly before 5.30pm, confirming that both the Inner and Outer Circles are back up and running.

They said: “Both Inner and Outer Circles are now running. Apologies for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.”

However, commuters have claimed they are still waiting for services to resume.

One worried passenger took to social media to share their frustrations after being left stranded since 5pm.

They commented on the post on X: “I’ve been at Buchanan Street for almost an hour, waiting on the subway starting again.

“Any updates on ticket acceptance for First/McGills buses? Or are we just expected to walk home in the thunderstorm?”

At 5.35pm, another added: “Have been waiting 15 minutes for the outer circle so this is obviously not true. Waste of money and time.”
