Manchester United’s pre-season will step up a gear this week when Ruben Amorim’s men fly out to the United States to continue their preparations for the 2025/26 season.

The Reds returned to action over the weekend and played out a goalless draw in Stockholm against Leeds United. In the space of the next fortnight, United will play West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton in the Premier League Summer Series.

Amorim’s focus will be on setting his squad up for the next season, but for many, including Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada, the priority is on finalising certain deals and laying the groundwork for others.

Bryan Mbeumo is the priority and the move to finally bring the Brentford star to Old Trafford is expected to be completed in time for the 25-year-old to travel to Chicago on Tuesday. United reached an agreement on Friday to sign the forward in a deal worth up to £70million.

The deal will take United’s spending past the £120m mark and with a new striker and goalkeeper remaining on their radar this summer, it’s highly likely that players will have to be sold to raise funds.

After failing in their pursuits for Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike, United are back at square one in their hunt for a new centre-forward. It has left alternatives receiving mixed receptions with Nicolas Jackson, Ollie Watkins and Moise Kean all linked.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is reportedly on their radar and after Arsenal opted to move for Gyokeres, Sesko remains available. It’s unclear how quickly a deal could be done but Amorim will want to have a new striker in, should he get one, sooner rather than later.

Andre Onana’s injury means Amorim is short in the goalkeeper department. It’s been reported that Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens is of interest with the Belgian side wanting just £17m, around the same that United are saving on Rashford’s salary this season.

Player sales have always been an important part of United’s transfer business. Marcus Rashford is in Spain to complete his loan move to Barcelona with an option to buy in the summer. It’s understood that the La Liga champions are paying his full salary.

Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and Antony, all not expected to be part of Amorim’s squad for the tour, are expected to leave this summer. There has also been links with a return to Italy for Rasmus Hojlund with recent reports claiming United would now be open to loaning the Dane.

The current issue starring United in the face is that there doesn’t appear to be any concrete interest for any of these five players. It means their uncertain future will drag on but, as witnessed with Rashford, a deal can come out of nowhere.
