Keith Thurman has shared his verdict on a potential clash between Manny Pacquiao and Gervonta Davis.
Pacquiao made a sensational return to the ring over the weekend when he challenged reigning WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It was the 46-year-old’s first ring appearance as a professional since June of 2021 when he was outpointed by former WBA world welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas.
The Filipino icon put on an impressive display against the younger champion but ultimately fell short as the fight was declared a majority decision draw, with two out of the three judges scoring the contest 114-114 even, whilst the other judge had it 115-113 in favour of Barrios.
Speaking to Boxing News, former unified welterweight champion Thurman shared his thoughts on the possibility of Pacquiao facing ‘Tank’ Davis, as he claims the Filipino great could ‘get hurt’ should he choose to go down this route.
“No [he shouldn’t face Gervonta], he can get hurt.”
Pacquiao actually revealed prior to his comeback bout against Barrios that he would be open to potentially facing Davis after it, although it remains to be seen whether the 46-year-old would still be interested in this.
‘Tank’ Davis is currently said to be in preparations for his highly-anticipated rematch with Lamont Roach Jr, after their controversial first encounter back in March ended in a split decision draw, although many fans believe Roach did more than enough to be declared the winner and become the first fighter to defeat the WBA lightweight champion.
