Ex Capcom Producer Action RPG

For the past couple of years or so, ex-Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi has made a habit of mentioning his new project — and we may finally be on the cusp of actually seeing it.

Having left the company in 2022, Kobayashi had worked at Capcom for close to 30 years, overseeing the original Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma games as a producer. He was also a producer on Resident Evil 4, and the Sengoku Basara series.

Just to be clear, Kobayashi is not to be confused with Hideaki Itsuno, who left Capcom a couple of years after Kobayashi, in 2024. He was the director on Devil May Cry, Dragon’s Dogma, and more.

Anyway, both of them have gone on to head their own development studios, and as the headline suggests, Kobayashi is working on an action RPG. His company, GPTRACK50, is a subsidiary of Chinese tech giant NetEase.

“While I can’t reveal any details yet, everything is going as planned,” he said, in a new interview with Famitsu (as translated by Automaton).

“In our New-Year’s greeting card for 2025, I said I wanted to announce it by the end of the year, and as a man of my word, I want to keep that promise,” Kobayashi teases.

“We’ve already entered the second half of the year, but rest assured that our studio is already preparing to make the announcement.”

So, this is the announcement, but when can expect to be playing this thing (assuming it’s targeting PlayStation platforms to begin with)?

Well, Kobayashi says that the team’s currently in the process of recording voicework, which suggests that it’s pretty far along.

What are you hoping from this supposed action RPG? Does Kobayashi’s past experience fill you with confidence for it? Kickstart some speculation in the comments section below.
