Toronto International Film Festival has shared the first official Christy photo for Sydney Sweeney‘s upcoming biographical drama about the life of former boxing champion Christy Martin. This comes ahead of the movie’s upcoming world premiere at TIFF 2025, which will take place this September.

Christy is directed by David Michôd, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Mirrah Foulkes. The story chronicles Martin’s rise to fame in the boxing world as well as her attempted murder by her husband in 2010. Besides Sweeney, the cast also includes Ben Foster, Merritt Weaver, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Katy O’Brian, Chad L. Colman, and Tony Cavlero.

Sydney Sweeney steps into the boxing ring

The photo provides the audience with a first look at Sweeney’s remarkable transformation as she underwent intense physical training to embody the titular athlete’s physique. It features Sweeney inside a boxing ring, giving us a glimpse of one of the movie’s matches.

In a previous interview, the Euphoria star opened up about how much her body changed because of the strict training regimen, which required her to do weight training and kickboxing.

“My body was completely different,” Sweeney said. “I didn’t fit in any of my clothes. I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god. But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.”

Besides Christy, Sweeney will also next be seen in Lionsgate’s film adaptation of The Housemaid with Oscar nominee Amanda Seyfried and It Ends With Us star Brandon Sklenar and in Ron Howard’s survival thriller Eden with Ana de Armas. In addition, she is also set to reprise her role as Cassie in the long-delayed Euphoria Season 3.
