THREE people have been arrested after a woman said she was assaulted and held against her will in Co Down.

Police said they were alerted around 9.10pm on Sunday that a a woman in her 30s had been found with facial injuries by a member of the public in the Newry Street area of Rathfriland.

Detective Sergeant Stewart said the woman informed them that three people had held her against her will at a property in the Dromore Street before she was “repeatedly assaulted” throughout the evening.

“Response officers, with the assistance of colleagues from the Armed Response Unit, attended the address in Dromore Street.

“Inside they found a man, aged in his 30s, who had also sustained serious facial injuries.

“The injured man and woman were taken to hospital for treatment.”

Detective Sergeant Stewart continued: “We have arrested a 25-year-old woman on suspicion of a number of offences including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, false imprisonment and robbery.”

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, false imprisonment and non-fatal strangulation.

A second man, aged 23, was also arrested on suspicion of offences including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, false imprisonment and robbery .

”They remain in custody at this time.

“We would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious behaviour in the Dromore Street area throughout Sunday to make contact us.

“We would also be keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam, CCTV or other footage.”
