Emergency services descended on the Pier Head this evening after a man fell into River Mersey. Mersey Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) was called to reports of a person in the water shortly after 8pm today, Monday, July 21.
Two fire engines, the search and rescue team, and a MFRS rescue boat attended the scene. One witness reported seeing police officers “running towards the water” after arriving at the scene.
The man, who was conscious and breathing but suffering from mild hypothermia, was rescued and brought to safety in the boat. He was then taken to hospital in an ambulance.
A spokesperson for Mersey Fire said: MFRS attended an incident at the Pier Head, Liverpool on the evening of Monday 21st July.

“Crews were alerted at 20.05 and on scene at 20.07 with two fire engines, the search and rescue team, and MFRS rescue boat Marine Fire One attending.
“This was in response to reports of a person in the water. Crew members onboard Marine Fire One retrieved the casualty from the water and relocated shoreside.
“Crews assisted the casualty, who was conscious and breathing, and suffering from mild hypothermia, before conveying them into the care of North West Ambulance Service for their onward journey to hospital.”
