Crews descended on a Salford street as flames soared and smoke billowed into the sky overnight.

Firefighters spent more than two hours at the scene of a blaze on Moorside Road, in Swinton.

Four fire engines raced out to the scene at around 10.40pm last night (July 21), where a fire had ripped through a commercial building.

Dramatic images showed large flames erupting from the site alongside thick plumes of heavy smoke.

A number of people were seen gathering to witness the fire from nearby Moorside railway station.

Crews brought the fire under control in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At around 10.40pm on Monday, July 21, our crews were called to reports of a fire at a commercial building on Moorside Road, Swinton.

“Four fire engines from Farnworth, Agecroft and Eccles stations, as well as the enhanced rescue unit from Leigh, quickly attended the scene. The fire involved several vehicles in the building’s yard.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. Fire crews were in attendance for about two and a half hours.”
