Cruel vandals have “set fire” to a children’s playhouse at a Glasgow nursery leaving pupils, parents and staff devastated.

Emergency crews raced to Rockfield Nursery on Rockfield Road, in Barmulloch, on Friday night at around 9.38pm after receiving reports of a fire.

Two appliances were sent to battle the blaze and left the scene at 10.12pm after working to make the area safe.

Police Scotland are understood to be investigating the alleged wilful fire. No one was injured in the incident.

A parent whose child attends the nursery told Glasgow Live: “They have set fire to the children’s playhouse that had just recently been purchased for them. My child absolutely loved the playhouse and I know it was a very loved piece of garden equipment that cost the nursery a lot of money to buy.

“The garden is one of their biggest assets, all the children love it and they have put a lot of love and effort into it so it’s such a shame that they are having to deal with this.”

The nursery issued an update to parents on Sunday, July 20, saying “we are saddened by the continued vandalism to our nursery.”

They added: “Our children will be devastated when they return on Tuesday, July 22.

“We urge the community to help us stop this. If you have any information that may help us, please contact the nursery.

“We are working with the police to try and resolve this matter.”
