Sunday might have marked the end of Oasis’ stint in Manchester, but it’s not the last time that fans will be able to see a show relating to the band in the next year. Those who book early enough can get tickets to the brand new comedy show coming to Manchester’s Opera House based on the famous rivalry between Blur and Oasis in 1995.

The two bands famously went head to head as they both released singles on the same day, vying to beat each other for the top spot in the charts. Millions of fans up and down the UK chose sides, either supporting Blur or Oasis in their battle to come out on top.

While Blur frontman Damon Albarn has since admitted that Oasis ‘won the battle’, those who lived through the 1995 debacle know that it could have gone either way with the rivalry rife between both the bands and fans alike. It’s the perfect topic to stage a comedy show about, which is exactly what writer John Niven and director Matthew Dunster have done.

Here’s a short precit of the show’s plot: “London, 1995. Two of the country’s biggest bands release singles on the same day, commencing the battle of Britpop.

“On one side, clean-cut, art-school intellectuals from the South. On the other: raw and unapologetic lads from the North. Rivalries flare, friendships fracture and at the centre of it all a mania that would define an era – were you Blur or Oasis?”

Matthew Horne is set to play the music industry executive that orchestrated the rivalry behind the scenes. He’s known for his previous appearances in TV shows such as Gavin and Stacey and Bad Education.
