Police spent around six-and-a-half hours at the scene of a ‘stand off’ in Salford.

Emergency services were called out to Spa Grove, in Little Hulton, following concerns for a person’s welfare at 4pm on Monday afternoon (July 21).

On arrival, officers discovered a man had become ‘aggressive’ and was threatening people with a weapon, described by witnesses as a ‘machete’.

Police remained at the scene throughout the evening, before the situation was eventually resolved at 10.30pm.

Greater Manchester Police says a man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in custody today (Tuesday).

It’s understood the man was taken to hospital following the incident.

Armed police were seen in attendance at the scene alongside negotiators and firefighters.

One witness said: “It was a man with a machete, he went back into his house when police got here. It’s been like this for about four hours.”

Another added: “Every man and his dog is here.”

GMP said there was no wider threat to the community in a statement issued on Monday night.
