Louie Barry admits his relationship with Ruben Selles was key in his decision to join Sheffield United on loan for the upcoming season.
Aston Villa sanctioned his loan move to the Blades after a permanent transfer to Hull City fell through earlier this summer.
The Tigers were set to pay Villa £3.5 million to complete the deal, but the English Football League imposed a transfer restriction on them.
Since then, Barry has been working hard at Bodymoor Heath and featured in both of the club’s first two friendlies of the summer.
He started in the 1-0 defeat at the Bescot Stadium, then came off the bench in the 3-1 loss in Germany on Saturday.
Barry will now aim to play an important role in the Blades’ push for promotion next season, as he reunites with Selles.
“The first time I had conversations about it, I just couldn’t wait to come here,” Barry said.
“The season is three weeks away, and I know we have a couple of friendlies before, but I am just buzzing to get started.
“I’ve been at Villa, playing games, training and working hard just for whatever will come next. As I say, when a club like this comes calling, you can’t turn it down and I can’t wait to get into it.
“I love his (Rubén Sellés) style of play, it is exactly what I stand for as a player. I just want to get to the goal as quick as possible.
“I have got a really good relationship with the gaffer and the staff, so I can’t wait to get into training now.”
