It’s safe to say that most of the world was watching when Prince Harry married Meghan Markle at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018. Much attention was paid to the bride and groom, Meghan’s stunning Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy wedding dress, and the A-list guests in attendance. One thing the general public should have been watching more closely? The facial expressions of other members of the royal family.

In a viral TikTok video posted on a fan account called houseofwindsorr, a variety of different wedding-day clips were stitched together to reveal how the royal family felt about Harry and Meghan’s nuptials. Queen Elizabeth’s reactions are most prominently featured, but the clips also showcase Meghan and Harry themselves, Prince Philip, King Charles, Queen Camilla, Zara Tindall, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Princess Beatrice.

Overall, the queen’s reactions weren’t overwhelmingly positive or negative—she’s certainly not smiling, but she’s not frowning, either. That being said, it’s impossible to tell when these clips were captured. The general sentiment of the video makes it seem like these were Queen Elizabeth’s reactions to Meghan and Harry at the altar, but it’s quite possible that these snippets were from the beginning or end of the wedding, when the bride and groom weren’t even present or seen together.

The rest of the edit is similarly unflattering. In the clip of Prince Philip, he appears to let out a long sigh. King Charles seems almost to shake his head and Queen Camilla’s smile falls from her face. Zara Tindall, Harry’s cousin, looks blank-faced as she repeatedly blinks, and Prince William and Kate Middleton look to be holding back smiles or laughs. As with Queen Elizabeth’s clips, this edit leaves us with more questions than answers—the videos could indicate that members of the royal family were already displeased by the union, or it could just be an unflattering video that was edited to continue the narrative that Harry and Meghan are now outsiders to the House of Windsor.

What’s most notable is how the video compares the reactions of Queen Elizabeth at Meghan and Harry’s wedding to her facial expression at Will and Kate’s nuptials in 2013. At the end of the video, Will and Kate stop before the monarch, and she appears to nod and smile in approval.

So, are these shocking reactions really indicative of how other royal family members felt, or is this just another viral video created with a skewed perspective? Whatever the truth may be, the video has now accumulated over 1.5 million likes, been saved 54,000 times, and received 2,611 comments.
