It’s been two years since Errol Spence was last in the ring.
The former unified welterweight champion has beaten an array of fighters at 147lbs, including Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia, Mikey Garcia and Kell Brook.
It led to an undisputed welterweight title showdown with Terence Crawford in July 2023, and despite many people seeing it as a close encounter, it turned out to be anything but, with Spence dominated and beaten by ninth round stoppage as he suffered the first loss of his professional career.
Various factors such as an ongoing eye injury has meant that ‘The Truth’ hasn’t competed since that date, but at one stage he was linked to come back at 154lbs for a clash against Sebastian Fundora.
It didn’t come to fruition, and Fundora has kicked on in his career, winning the WBC and WBO super-welterweight titles, and most recently he claimed a seventh round retirement victory over Tim Tszyu.
Speaking after his victory over Tszyu, the 6ft 6in fighter was asked if fights against the likes of Spence and Crawford interest him, and he singled out ‘The Truth’ as being an opponent he would be ready for when he returns.
“I hope so. I would still like to fight those guys. We have Crawford fighting Canelo now, super big fight. Spence I don’t know where he’s at but I’m sure he’s going to come back good and strong, and when he does I’m ready.”
Fundora isn’t the only big name to want a showdown against Spence, with another former world champion also calling for the fight.
