Igor Paixao has been heavily linked with a move to Leeds United this summer.

Anton Stach became the latest arrival at Elland Road, as Daniel Farke’s Premier League squad starts to take shape ahead of the new campaign.

However, the Whites still have a lot of work to do in preparation for their return to the top-flight, with attacking arrivals high up on their list of priorities.

Hopes of getting a deal for Paixao over the line started to fade when it was reported that an agreement was reached with Marseille, but those talks have since stalled, and Leeds may swoop.

Paixao registered a remarkable 26 goal contributions for Feyenoord last season, which has seemingly earned him attention from clubs around Europe.

Leeds have been linked, but Dutch football expert Michael Statham thinks it would come as a shock if the Whites were able to seal the deal.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “I have heard that Paixao would prefer a move to the Premier League as he wouldn’t like a move to Ligue 1. I would be surprised, though, if he were to swap Feyenoord for Leeds, given his high potential.

“Some may be thinking that Paixao is the same as Luis Sinisterra. However, Paixao has a lot more to his game. They are both inverted left-wingers, but Paixao has more speed, quality and directness in his play. The Brazilian is lethal with goal contributions, using his skill and tight finishing.

“Unfortunately for Leeds fans, I still think that Paixao will choose to play for a team that is in European competition. He has the ability to play for a top club in Europe.

“If Leeds can pull it off, then I would expect a stellar season before Paixao shoots off for another team. It is exciting that Leeds are even linked with such a good player.”

As good a signing as Paixao would be, there is still doubt as to whether Leeds will be able to reach an agreement, given the finances at hand.

With that said, the Whites mustn’t put all their eggs in one basket and get to work on other attacking targets as the Premier League season edges closer.
