Liverpool is set to be hit with light showers today before turning sunnier in the afternoon. The Met Office said rain is forecast between 8am and 12pm on Wednesday, July 23. This is followed by prolonged periods of dry weather before some sunshine between 3pm and 7pm.

Temperatures are set to reach highs of 20C in Merseyside and lows of around 16C. The Met Office said: “Prolonged periods of dry and cloudy weather and whilst a few showers are possible, most places will stay largely dry. Some sunshine at times and feeling warmer than yesterday.”

Tonight the weather is set to be fine, with any late showers clearing. The Met Office said it will be “generally” dry overnight with clear periods, however is set to be slightly cooler than of late with a few fog patches in the countryside.

For its North West forecast, the Met Office said: “A generally dry day and whilst the odd light shower is possible, the vast majority will stay dry with a mixture of cloud and periods of sunshine. Feeling warm.

“Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Turning damp and murky in some western coastal areas later on Friday with occasional drizzle. Otherwise fine on Friday and Saturday with some warm sunshine. Rain or showers on Sunday.”

According to the Met Office’s UK long range weather forecast for Sunday, July 27 to Tuesday, August 5, periods of rain and showers will “remain possible”.

On its website, the weather agency said: “A weather regime dominated by westerly winds is likely at first. While showers or longer spells of rain will remain possible for all parts early in the period, the focus of wet weather will likely increasingly be focussed across the west and northwest, especially over hills where rain could be prolonged.

“The highest chance of drier and sunnier weather is expected to the east of hills, and across south and eastern areas.

“Later in the period if high pressure builds into the southwest settled weather may develop there too.

“It will be breezy at times, especially in further north. Temperatures are most likely to be near to average or slightly above average for the time of year.”
