Liverpool have undergone a massive rebuild this summer with the Reds adding six new players to their ranks.

And, once Hugo Ekitike’s move is officially confirmed, the Reds will have already spent close to £300million on upgrading their first-team squad.

And, even though Caoimhin Kelleher and Jarell Quansah have been sold for a combined fee worth over £50million, more sales are going to be needed if Arne Slot wants to add even more talent to his ranks.

Players such as Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez have both been heavily linked with Anfield exits this summer, but it’s not either of them who have caught the eye of AC Milan.

Federico Chiesa’s transfer to Liverpool last season has been a massive flop.

Even though the Italian only cost the Anfield outfit around £12.5million to bring in, the lack of game time he received and the lack of fight he showed have made his move feel pointless.

And, now that the 2025-26 season is just on the horizon, it’s not a surprise to see several clubs linked with an interest.

According to a new report from Caught Offside, Serie A giants AC Milan have now made ‘indirect contact’ with the representatives of the attacker; however, the fee that Liverpool wants for the Italian has been mooted to pose ‘challenges.’

The report also adds that Juventus could be back in the frame with a move to the Old Lady slowly ‘gaining traction.’

Caught Offside also share that Atletico Madrid are keeping ‘close tabs’ on Chiesa’s situation as they’ve just lost Angel Correa to Tigres.

With the amount of changes that have already occurred at Anfield this season, it’s hard to see why Liverpool would want to get rid of Chiesa, especially if Nunez and Diaz are going to leave this summer.

Indeed, the Italian didn’t have the best of campaigns last term, but the fact that he only cost the club around £12.5million to sign in the first place means that he was a risk-free investment.

Indeed, players such as Rodrygo Goes and Olympique Lyon’s Malick Fofana have both been linked with an Anfield switch this summer, but with both likely to cost over £50million, it’s hard to see how the Reds would have enough money to bring both in.

The 2024-25 seasons of Rodrygo Goes and Malick Fofana in numbers.

If they can keep hold of Chiesa, it’s one less position for them to worry about and, with Mohamed Salah as their starting right-winger, it’s hard to see why the Italian couldn’t be his back-up.

Of course, these are all just ifs, buts and maybes at the moment, but on the face of things, selling Chiesa this summer makes little-to-no sense.

That is, especially since Giorgio Chiellini dubbed the attacker as ‘unstoppable‘ during his time with Juventus.
