Since Thursday, July 17, residents have faced ‘huge latency spikes’ in their Wi-Fi with unstable connections, despite speed tests appearing normal.

The problem appears to have affected Hatch Warren, Kempshott, Oakley, Brighton Hill and Hook, across a range of providers, including BT, EE, and TalkTalk.

A spokesperson for Openreach, who provide broadband for infrastructure to providers, said: “We’re aware of reports of disruption to broadband services in some parts of Basingstoke.

“We know how disruptive it is to be without a fast internet connection, so our engineers are working hard to get things fixed as quickly as possible. Thank you to residents for their patience while this work is being carried out.”

Barrie McGuire, from Hatch Warren, has been left struggling as he works from home and often has to take Teams conference calls.

He said: “It’s been pretty bad, it got to the point where I couldn’t hear or see anyone on the call.

“I’ve had to buy a 5GB data sim and I’ve been tethered to my phone so I can work.”

Barrie had an engineer visit on Saturday, but he was left ‘struggling to figure out what it is.’

A Facebook post on the Hatch Warren and Beggarwood Community group has had almost 100 replies with residents sharing their Wi-Fi frustrations.

Paul Carver said: “I feel better for seeing this post. Thought it was remote to us. It’s been terrible past 24 hours. Keep running diagnostic checks, spots an error, not sure if it’s making any difference.”

One resident shared that 44 people on the Gabriel Park estate who are with EE were facing issues.

Steve Holmes said: “Speed test all good, any sort of streaming is slow to not working. Web browsing is hit and miss. It’s obviously an issue down the line somewhere.”

BT, EE and TalkTalk were approached for comment.
