WIth schools not out for summer,. many people’s thoughts will have turned to booking a last minute getaway over the six weeks. aNd now, Post Office Travel Money have revealed the ‘cheapest’ holiday hotspot for families to visit for summer 2025.

While, with prices traditionally shooting up for school holidays, many Brits book their family breaks well in advance in a bid to try and save some money, others are happy to play the waiting game and rely on deals becoming cheaper at the last minute. Many airports in the UK were absolutely packed last weekend, as families wasted no time in jetting off once pupils left school for their extended break, with a whole host of different destinations across Europe welcome plane loads of Brits desperate for some summer sun.

If you’re still looking to book up and are hoping for a bargain deal or have your holiday booked and are now worried about how you’re going to afford all the spending money, experts at Post Office Travel Money have released a ranking of the best value hotspots to visit in Europe. And the list is topped by Marmaris in Turkey, a place that has long been a favourite of British holidaymakers and continues to be be massively popular.

It tops the Post Office cheap list thanks to the average cost for things many people will part with cash for during their holiday. Research found that the average price of a cup of coffee was £2.01, a 1.5 litre bottle of water just 18p, and a three course meal for a family with drinks standing at £67.67. The average total cost for items, also including sun cream, insect repellant and a two course lunch for adults came out as £128.99.

That put it just ahead of Sunny Beach in Bulgaria, which finished in second, with a total cost of £129.47. While overall best value location, Marmaris proved to be more expensive that Sunny Beach and other places on the list, like the Algarve and Lanzarote, for beer or wine, with holidaymakers in Marmaris told to expect to pay £3.31 for a bottle of beer or lager and £4.52 for a wine. Other places to finish in the top 10 included three in Greece – Crete, Kos and Rhodes, with the Costa Del Sol also in there.

The nearest airport to Marmaris is Dalaman, with it being around 90 minutes from the resort. Three airlines currently fly direct to Dalaman from Newcastle Airport, including TUI and Jet2. At the time of writing, the cheapest Newcastle-Dalaman flight for the next few weeks with Jet2 was £118 outward and £179 in bound, while with TUI there were deals that offered return flights for less than £300 and SUnExpress had them for under £250.
