Lucas Digne intends to open contract discussions with Aston Villa, as his current deal ticks down.

That’s according to The Athletic who claim the France international ‘plans to hold contract talks soon’ with his current term having just 12 months to run.

Digne joined Villa from Everton in January 2022, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract since when he has been an important part of the team.

The 32-year-old has racked up 138 appearances in that time, with 45 coming last term, including nine in the Champions League as he withheld the challenge of new signing Ian Maatsen, albeit the balance did feel like it was starting to shift at times last term.

Reports have claimed Digne is one of the bigger earners in the Villa squad and that, combined with the time remaining on his deal, could see him move on this summer.

However, The Athletic reports suggests the former PSG, Roma and Barcelona man could yet have a few chapters left in his Aston Villa story.
