After Buckingham Palace revealed that King Charles was receiving treatment for cancer in February 2024, the public has been clamoring for more details. No one knows precisely what kind of cancer he has. It was discovered shortly after he had a procedure at The London Clinic for benign prostatic hyperplasia, or enlarged prostate.
While we know that Charles is still undergoing treatment, the royal family has been minimal in sharing details. But on July 22, the King and Queen Camilla were walking around Newmarket. As they chatted with the crowd, he was asked about his health. Surprisingly, the British monarch answered.

The King Told a Supporter That He’s Feeling a Lot Better
King Charles and Queen Camilla’s walk around Newmarket included greeting schoolchildren and the crowds of people who stood behind the barriers to catch a glimpse of the royal couple. As he approached 54-year-old Lee Harman, who had come from Bury St. Edmunds, he engaged in a brief conversation.
“I asked him how he was, and he said he was feeling a lot better now and that it was ‘just one of those things,’ Harman told the PA News Agency (via Hello! Magazine).
The cancer survivor then told the King about his own battle with the disease. “He asked me how I was and I said ‘I’m all good,’ I got the all clear from cancer last year,” Harman said.
Just four months ago, Charles was hospitalized due to side effects from his cancer treatment. Buckingham Palace officials told the BBC at the time that it was a “most minor bump in a road that is very much heading in the right direction.”
“Tomorrow, he was due to undertake four public engagements in Birmingham and is greatly disappointed to be missing them on this occasion,” the palace’s statement added.
After resting for a few days, the King was back to work, including a trip to Papua New Guinea and a state visit to Italy.
King Charles’ Battle With Cancer Has Changed His Perspective
On April 30, King Charles welcomed representatives from various cancer charities and survivors to Buckingham Palace, including actor Richard E. Grant and Adele Roberts. His message to them made it clear that his personal experience with cancer has affected his perspective on the disease.
“Every single diagnosis is a daunting and at times frightening experience for those individuals and their loved ones,” Charles’ message said. “But as one among those statistics myself, I can vouch for the fact that it can also be an experience that brings into sharp focus the very best of humanity.”
