A Greater Manchester marina described as a ‘quiet and beautiful spot’ is to get a new pop-up artisan market.
Saddleworth Marina, in Greenfield in Oldham, is stationed within the historic Huddersfield Narrow Canal and is located just a ten-minute walk from Uppermill.
Featuring 16 moorings, the £1.7m private marina on Frenches Wharf opened in a former derelict site in 2013 and also overlooks the family-friendly Kingfisher pub on Chew Valley Road.
It has been announced that the marina will now play host to a monthly market, which will be held on the first Sunday of the month and will officially get underway on Sunday, August 3.
Organised by the Pop Up Market Co., who have previously held successful markets at the likes of Kampus, the University of Manchester, and the University of Salford, the market will feature local and independent traders across food, drink, arts, crafts and more.

The organisers have said they hope the monthly pop-up will not only provide a ‘great atmosphere and gorgeous finds’ but will also serve as an extra opportunity for people to visit and discover the marina.
Posting on social media, the Pop Up Market Co. wrote: “I’m delighted to announce to you all that we have another incredible market launching on Sunday 3rd August and every first Sunday of the month thereafter at Saddleworth Marina at Frenches Wharf.
“This is one of our most exciting launches to date. Nestled within Greenfield, it’s the most beautiful site for a curated artisan market working in partnership with Saddleworth Marina at Frenches Wharf and The Kingfisher.”
The monthly markets will also feature live music as well as free craft sessions for children, and will run from 11am to 4pm. Entry will be free, and dogs will also be welcome to attend.

The post added: “Browse from a brilliant line-up of local makers and small independents, each bringing an incredible selection of food, drink, art, and craft. From freshly baked cheesecakes and hearty pasties to handmade sauces, scotch eggs, cookies, and more.
“You’ll also find unique creations such as candles, artwork, beard balms, and home décor. There will be live music to enjoy, plus free crafting for the kids and plenty to tempt your tastebuds – so come hungry and ready to explore.”
Other confirmed dates for forthcoming markets at Saddleworth Marina are listed as Sunday 7th September, Sunday 5th October, and Sunday 2nd November. A special Christmas Market will take place on Sunday 7th December.
Organisers behind the event will also be hosting a new Foodie Friday event with Cloudwater at Piccadilly Trading Estate on Friday, August 1 from 5pm to 9pm.
