Australia legend Drew Mitchell pulled his hamstring and then downed a pint handed to him from the stands during the Classic Wallabies against British and Irish Legends match at AAMI Park in Melbourne.
With the British and Irish Lions playing on Tuesday against First Nations & Pasifika XV, players from both sides of the equator kept the hype train running with a unique spectacle on the southeastern coast of Australia. Just 12 minutes into the match, RugbyPass coverage cut to Wallaby icon Kurtley Beale on the touchline speaking with the commentary team, only for him to provide some unique foreshadowing.
Mitchell peeled down the left flank, only to pull up, clutching his hamstring, prompting a very enthused Beale to exclaim: “He’s done his hammy!”
“I said it! I said it!,” continued Beale. “Why are we laughing? We’re bad people,” added co-commentator James Haskell.
“No laughing,” assured Beale, before bursting into laughter again.
However, the drama didn’t stop there. As the commentators and Beale cracked up, Mitchell took a pint from someone in the crowd and drank it all in one in front of the fans, earning a big cheer.

Referencing the beer-drinking, one fan joked: “Accelerates recovery, known fact.”
This was the first in a two-match series between the sides, with the next coming up on Thursday, July 31 at North Sydney Oval. It’s the first time these games have taken place since the last tour in 2013.
