A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after she suffered a medical episode behind the wheel of a car and crashed into a tree.
It happened on the A4040 Harborne Lane, near Chapel Lane junction in Selly Oak, shortly after 1pm this afternoon, July 24.
Hero locals rushed to the woman’s aid and began giving her CPR before paramedics arrived.

She was later rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a critical condition.
Harborne Lane was shut for around two hours following the crash but has since reopened.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman told BirminghamLive: “We were called to reports of an RTC on Chapel Lane in Selly Oak at 1.08pm.

“Two ambulances, a MERIT trauma doctor with critical care paramedic, and a second critical care paramedic were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found one car had come off the road and collided with a tree.
“The driver, a woman, was in a critical condition after a suspected medical episode at the wheel and was receiving good CPR from bystanders.
“Ambulance staff immediately took over to administer advanced life support before conveying her to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”
West Midlands Fire Service said it was called called to the scene at around 1.14pm.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: “We were called to Harborne Lane and sent two fire engines to the scene.
“We found a lady had suffered a cardiac arrest while driving.
“She was involved in a minor collision with a tree.
“We left the incident with the police and left in around half-an-hour.”
