Alex Albon has been one of the most impressive drivers in the 2025 Formula 1 season, regularly battling to get his Williams into the points.

In some ways, his form this season has been a surprise. David Coulthard felt 2025 would be ‘make-or-break’ for Albon amid the arrival of Carlos Sainz from Ferrari. However, the F1 legend has been proved wrong.

The Thai driver has been instrumental in guiding Williams away from the back of the grid and into the midfield. Finishing fifth three times thus far in 2025, Albon has scored 46 points compared to Sainz’s 13 at the halfway point of the season.

Williams looked like a serious contender in the midfield in the earlier rounds, but the team have stagnated in recent races. Albon suffered three consecutive retirements between Spain and Austria, before ending the drought with P8 at Silverstone.

The Thai driver is determined to guide the Grove outfit to success, with excitement building around the team for the 2026 F1 regulations. Williams were the first to commit to developing next season’s car, with James Vowles constantly talking up how strong his driver line-up is.

Albon and Sainz give the team a strong foundation to build on in 2026, but given the former’s results this season, it would not be a surprise if some teams in the paddock were potentially looking at him for the future.

That is precisely what journalist Tom Clarkson asked Albon on the Beyond The Grid podcast. But he gave nothing away about any potential interest as he simply said: “Speak to my manager!”

Albon was then asked how long is left on his contract at Williams. While he would not give away the exact details, he expressed that he is committed to the team’s project: “I can’t say that either. I love the story of Williams, I think we’re definitely in the right position.

I’m not looking around. I’m convinced in the project, I love being here and I think James and the board are doing a fantastic job.

“I do mean that, and I think, looking at the previous results, there’s no reason why I need to look around. I’m very happy with where I am.”

Albon’s contract is believed to run until at least 2027, with no further details being known beyond that. Despite the slight uncertainty surrounding his future, he has stressed that he is happy where he is.

The Thai driver has stayed loyal to Williams over the years. Jenson Button said Albon rejected ‘very good offers’ to leave the team amid rumours of a surprise return to Red Bull after Sergio Perez was sacked at the end of last year.

But he has pledged his allegiance to Williams and has been pivotal in guiding the team to P5 in the constructors’ championship in 2025. He is getting the better of his experienced teammate Sainz and is helping to motivate the team behind the scenes with great technical feedback.

But he is also demanding improvements in Grove as he hopes to lead the team to success. Albon wants to see upgrades in 2025 as he sees potential in the current package, as well as their prospects for 2026.
