Leeds are still chasing Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao.

Paixao has emerged as a key target for Daniel Farke’s side after a remarkable campaign in the Eredivisie.

The 25-year-old has been compared to Elland Road icon Raphinha after notching 18 goals and 19 assists last season.

The Whites need a new left winger after Manor Solomon returned to Tottenham at the end of his loan spell, with little chance of a permanent deal for the Israeli.

Leeds are not the only side interested in the 25-year-old, as Marseille are also pushing to sign him.

The LS11 outfit have reportedly made a £30million bid for Paixao, with the French outfit seeing an offer of £26m rejected by the Dutch club.

Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Graham Smyth believes that the Whites will not pay over the odds for the winger if they are dragged into a bidding war.

Speaking on the Square Ball podcast (24 July), he said: “For Leeds, I think as long as it doesn’t stretch to silly money, and it starts to jeopardise getting your nine in, getting your goalkeeper in and getting the other bits they need to bulk out the squad.

“I think they are still in the race, but it cannot get to silly money.”

Paixao could be the next star at Leeds

The Yorkshire outfit signing a promising Brazilian winger after securing promotion to the Premier League, it all feels a little bit too familiar.

The now Barcelona star notched 17 goals and 12 assists in 67 matches in a magical spell with the Peacocks, and the hope will be that Paixao can do the same if he signs for the Championship winners.

The Feyenoord star could be tempted by following a similar path to the former Whites ace, starring with Farke’s side, then going on to be a contender for the Ballon d’Or with the Catalan giants.

He could be a brilliant addition for the newly-promoted side if he can have an impact like his compatriot, whom he has admitted that he looks up to.

He told TNT Sports Brazil that the ex-Whites man was “an example for me and all of us Brazilians.”

It remains to be seen whether they can sign him, ahead of their Ligue 1 rivals, but the appeal of the top-flight should give them an advantage.

It probably depends on the kind of fee that is being demanded; the 49ers clearly have a limit that they will not go beyond, judging by comments.
