A tribute has been paid to a police officer who was killed when he was struck by lightning in a Birmingham park exactly a century ago today.

PC William Thomas Corbett died when he was struck by lightning during a ‘severe thunderstorm’ on July 24, 1925.

The 35-year-old was on duty in Edgbaston’s Calthorpe Park when he was hit by a thunderbolt.
