Gustavo Hamer has been linked with Leeds United for some time now, and following the Whites’ promotion to the Premier League and Sheffield United’s loss in the play-off final, a move to Elland Road could now be realistic for Hamer.
Even stretching back to last summer, Gustavo Hamer has been a target for Daniel Farke. And going into this summer’s transfer window, Leeds United’s links to Hamer have been reignited and fuelled after Sheffield United lost the Championship play-off final to Sunderland.
Earlier in the summer, it was claimed that Hamer preferred a move to PSV Eindhoven, who are showing a strong interest in the Dutchman. But subsequent reports actually clarified that Hamer would rather secure a Premier League move this summer, further fuelling speculation that he could sign for Leeds United.
And there is yet more news on Hamer’s future, although it doesn’t seem all that good for Leeds United, who may yet miss out on the 2024/25 Championship player of the season.

An emerging report from Dutch outlet Soccer News has revealed that PSV remain hopeful of signing Hamer this summer, but reiterate that Hamer is inclined to join a Premier League club with the likes of Leeds United and fellow promoted side Burnley among the suitors.
However, Soccer News claim that Hamer ‘isn’t immediately interested’ in joining either Burnley or Leeds this summer, whilst suggesting that Leeds are in fact in negotiations to sign the former Coventry City man but adding that ‘negotiations haven’t been going smoothly’ thus far.
Last season, the 28-year-old Hamer scored 10 goals and assisted eight more in 44 Championship games for the Blades, who have since changed managers with Ruben Selles arriving. Selles hasn’t ruled out Hamer leaving Sheffield United this summer.

This month it has been claimed that Leeds United will sign a new number 10, along with a new winger and a new striker, having fully bolstered their defence and midfield. There are also reports that Leeds United are about to sign goalkeeper Lucas Perri from Lyon.
MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES
But a move for Hamer seems to be losing speed. This latest report, along with the fact that Leeds United are yet to make a concrete bid for the player, suggests that Farke doesn’t think a move may be all that likely.
Instead, someone like Emi Buendia could rapidly come into the crosshairs for Leeds. Leeds United have been linked with Buendia throughout the year, though recent reports revealed that Leeds are yet to make a formal approach to sign Buendia from Aston Villa, who is free to leave Villa Park this summer.
Who ends up arriving in the number 10 position remains to be seen, but fans are determined not to see the likes of Brenden Aaronson playing a key role in the Premier League next season.
