Hundreds of people living and visiting the areas of Tenby and Saundersfoot of Pembrokeshire have been left with no water after a water main burst.

Welsh Water have been working to resolve the issue since Friday morning, though no updates have been issued since as to how long residents will continue to be affected. In their statement, it said they hope for the situation to have been resolved by the afternoon. Until then, homes and holiday homes will be without running taps.

On holidaymaker staying at a campsite at Broadfield Hill, which is between New Hedges and Saundersfoot, said: “I woke up and turned the tap on and there were just dribbles. I checked on our campsite’s Facebook page and it said there was an issue near by.

“We drove past New Hedges where I could see Welsh Water workers and the whole road was covered in water.”

A spokesperson for Welsh Water issued a statement to residents of Tenby and the Twycross area of Saundersfoot. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here

It said: “We’re aware of a burst on our network which is affecting the water supply to this area. Until the pipe is fixed, you may experience low pressure or no water.

“We expect all supplies to be fully restored by later this afternoon. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“There are five main stages we follow when repairing leaks and bursts:

  • Stage 1 – Investigation. We review the customer impact, risk and health and safety concerns.
  • Stage 2 – Fault located. Repair planning, working with 3rd parties, road closures, ordering of specialist equipment or fittings. Reconfiguring the water network.
  • Stage 3 – Repair. Ensuring the safety of our teams and the public while we repair the leak.
  • Stage 4 – Restoring / Reinstatement. Returning the water network to normal and making good any surfaces.
  • Stage 5 – Final update.

“Running your cold kitchen tap will help to clear any discolouration in your supply.

“Further updates will be provided here when we have more information.
