We start this week in Cottingley where the community centre has organised a FUNraiser on Saturday from 11am-3pm. Featuring Raffle, cafe, balloon stall, face painting and more it will help raise much needed funds so that the centre continue to help the community.
Running until 31 August, Wonderland Awaits opens on Saturday. It’s an immersive, city-wide celebration inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass and organised by Leeds BID. Pick up a special trail map at wonderlandleeds.com and step into a dreamlike version of Leeds, where iconic locations across the city become scenes from Carroll’s world.
It’s the Trinity Network Summer Fair on Saturday from 11am-3pm. Attractions include a bouncy castle, barbecue, pop-up beach, outdoor games and a mocktail bar. It’s all taking place at Nesfield road in Belle Isle, LS10 3LG.
Saturday also sees Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s First XI take on Windhill & Daisy Hill CC at their Gipsy Lane ground, LS11 5TT starting at 12pm.
INSIGHT, the mental health peer support group are holding a table top sale from 1-3pm on Saturday at Involve Community Centre, Whitfield Avenue, Hunslet LS10 2QE.
The Beeston Hill Community Association are holding a community picnic in Cross Flatts Park on Saturday from 2pm to mark International Friendship Day. Organisers urge you to “bring some tasty vegetarian food to share, a blanket and an open heart!”. By the Watsonian Pavilion at the top of the park.
Slung Low Shorts is back after a 5 year hiatus with 6 brand new plays. And, as ever, there’s something for everyone. Including (but not limited to) shadowy conspiracies, Westminster satire, a superannuated detective and even a wedding. Join us for a night of fast but fantastic theatre. On Sunday the Friends of Middleton Park are leading a guided walk looking at the trees and butterflies of the park around the park. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1:30pm, dress for the weather including walking shoes or boots.
The Beeston Hill Community Association will be meeting on Monday evening, 6:30-8pm, at the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road, LS11 6RD. The meeting will be focussing on litter and fly-tipping.
It’s Health Awareness Week at the Hamara Healthy Living Centre on Tempest Road in Beeston, LS11 6RD with sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11am-2pm. There are a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and at Ingram Gardens Community Centre from 10am-12pm. Finally they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street on Thursday 10am-12pm.
Stronger Together, the parent/guardian/carers’ support group for those who look after children and young people under 25 with disabilities, holds it monthly meeting on Tuesday at 11am at BITMO’s GATE in Belle Isle, LS10 3QH.
Youth Services are running two free Activity Days this week. The first is at Blenkinsop Field on Acre Road in Middleton, LS10 4HT, on Tuesday. Then on Thursday they will be at Cardinal Square, Beeston, LS11 8HS. Both events run from 12-3pm, featuring inflatables, games, crafts and more. They are free, there’s no need to book, just turn up and have fun.
Cllr Wayne Dixon (SDP, Middleton Park) will be holding an advice surgery at Middleton Elderly Aid’s Social Centre on Acre Road on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am.
At Holbeck Cemetery, Fairfax Road, LS11 8SY, volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Wednesday to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.
There is a coffee morning and bingo at Cardinal Court in Beeston on Wednesday 10am-12pm organised by MHA South Leeds.
On Wednesday Breeze in the Park visits Cross Flatts Park in Beeston. The session runs for 12-4pm, Tickets cost £1 per child from www.breezeleeds.org. There will also be a quiet hour for children with additional needs from 11am-12pm.
Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, off Church Street, LS10 2NS.
Yorkshire Ammers Academy have teamed up with Leeds United Academyto organise a free Football Fun Day on Friday at South Leeds Youth Hub in Belle Isle, LS10 3JA. Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3 children from 9-10:15am; Years 4, 5 and 6 from 10:30-11:45am. Email: info@ammers.co.uk, or sign up here.
And finally, the Tower Works Street Fest returns on Friday 4-9pm, off Water Lane in Holbeck. You will find fresh produce and street food to handmade crafts, original art, craft beer, specialty coffee, live music, and so much more. The Street Fest then continues next Saturday and Sunday.
