Floyd Mayweather handed Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez the first defeat of his career back in 2013.

The former pound-for-pound superstar defeated the Mexican via majority decision in September 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas to capture his WBC light-middleweight title.

Canelo bounced back from this defeat to become a world champion in three weight divisions, as well as becoming the first two-time undisputed super-middleweight champion ever back in May.

The 35-year-old from Guadalajara is now preparing to lock horns with fellow pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford, with the duo set to do battle in their ‘mega-fight’ on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

In the build up a lot has been made of the weight disparity between the two fighters, with Crawford making the jump to 168lbs having spent most of his career at 147lbs, although his last outing saw him become 154lb champion when he defeated Israil Madrimov.

Some are speculating that come fight night there might be as much as a 20lb difference between them.

In a resurfaced interview with FightHype, Mayweather spoke after his 2013 showdown with Canelo and revealed that the Mexican weighed over 15lbs more than him on the night.

“Actually, when I went over to the arena, I weighed 149, I think 149 probably close to 150 but 149, so I went in the fight tonight weighing 149 and he [Canelo] weighed 165.”

Mayweather was then asked if he could notice the significant weight difference when he was actually in the ring.

“No I think it’s really about the skills, I don’t really think it’s about the weight, I mean it’s about the weight when you get to me going up to 160 right because you know it’s hard for me to make the junior-middleweight weight.”

History beckons for Crawford, with a victory he will become the first male fighter of all time to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes, having already achieved this feat at super-lightweight and welterweight.
