Singapore-headquartered data centre firm DayOne has broken ground on its first hyperscale data center in Singapore, a 20MW site in Jurong, designed to meet Southeast Asia’s rising demand for AI, cloud computing and digital transformation, according to the company’s Linkedin post. The facility, SG1, will feature cutting-edge green innovation, such as hybrid air and liquid cooling systems, high-density GPU support and is expected to be Singapore’s first data centre to pilot on-site hydrogen-based Solid Oxide Fuel Cell energy generation.

Scheduled to be operational next year, the facility will occupy about 40,000 square meters of gross floor area.

The groundbreaking ceremony also witnessed the signing of two major strategic partnerships, namely:

  1. A 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Sembcorp Industries Ltd, ensuring the facility will be backed by bundled renewable energy certificates.
  2. A research and development collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS) under the Sustainable Tropical Data Center Testbed Phase 2.0, which will allow DayOne to jointly explore and test cutting-edge cooling technologies — purpose-built for tropical climates.

Designed to meet LEED Platinum and BCA Green Mark Platinum (GMDC:2024) certifications, SG1 will be the first DayOne data center across its markets to operate with 100% renewable energy.

“This facility marks our commitment to Singapore as both home base and regional hub while highlighting our long-term vision to power Asia Pacific’s digital transformation with green infrastructure,” said Jamie Khoo, CEO of DayOne.

The project is made possible through support from the IMDA and Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) under the DC-CFA program .

“Data center operators like DayOne play an important role in advancing energy efficiency and green energy solutions in support of our digital economy and the sustainable growth of data centers in Singapore,” said Aileen Chia, Deputy Chief Executive, IMDA.

Chiap Khiong Koh, President & CEO, Gas and Related Services and CEO, Singapore at Sembcorp Industries Ltd said, “Our collaboration with DayOne reflects our commitment to powering the next generation of digital infrastructure with clean, future-ready solutions.”

“This initiative underscores our collective commitment to reimagine how data centers in the tropics can perform effectively and sustainably,” said Professor PS Lee at NUS.  “Together, we’re laying the foundation for a new class of energy efficient, climate resilient digital infrastructure in Singapore and across the region.”
