Leeds United have been working hard to sign Feyenoord forward Igor Paixao this transfer window at Elland Road.

Olympique Marseille’s offer to the Eredivisie outfit for the Brazilian attacker has been matched by the Whites, with more add-ons included.

Roma have also joined the race for Paixao, but the Serie A outfit are yet to make any concrete move to buy the 25-year-old.

The West Yorkshire outfit now seem to be close to getting a deal over the line for the winger after making preparations behind the scenes.

Leeds laid the groundwork for an agreement regarding Paixao’s transfer after meetings with his agents, according to Le Figaro Sports.

The news outlet reports in its print edition (26 July, page 31) that while Marseille have made the 25-year-old their priority, Feyenoord are yet to respond to their offer of around £26million, leaving the door open at Elland Road.

It looks like Paixao wants to join the newly-promoted Premier League outfit in the coming weeks, but it remains to be seen what the final fee will be.

The Whites undoubtedly need to bolster the left side of their attack ahead of next season, and the Brazilian winger feels like the perfect option for them after his heroics in the Eredivisie last season.

Daniel Farke will be hoping for more business to be done in LS11 in the ongoing transfer window, and attacking reinforcements will certainly be a priority now.

Leeds have bolstered their defence admirably with Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Gabriel Gudmundsson this summer.

The Whites have also signed Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach to add more quality in depth to their engine room.

That leaves the West Yorkshire outfit with work to do up front, with Lukas Nmecha being the only forward addition so far in the ongoing transfer window.

Leeds should push for Paixao’s move to Elland Road, and then look at other options to provide Farke with more options in the forward line.

The Peacocks will undoubtedly need to rely on outscoring their Premier League counterparts often to secure valuable points and avoid immediate relegation from the top flight.
