A significant step towards expanding broadband access in rural Pennsylvania was marked recently with the completion of a new telecommunications tower near Waterfall in Fulton County.

Upward Broadband, a family-owned internet provider, celebrated the event at a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the Hustontown Fire Company, according to an WHTM, ABC’s news affiliate in Harrisburg.

Tim Beiler, CEO of Upward Broadband, emphasized the critical importance of internet connectivity, calling reliable internet access “no longer a luxury,” WHTM reported.

The new tower is part of a larger $204 million Pennsylvania Broadband Infrastructure Program supporting 53 projects statewide intended to connect more than 100,000 residents in underserved areas.

According to WHTM, the tower near Waterfall will extend access to 1,000 locations around the border of Fulton and Huntingdon counties.

Upward Broadband extends fixed wireless access to Centre, Chester, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Mifflin, and Lancaster County, according to the company’s website.

“A choice for internet service without the gimmicks, the bundles, and the frustrations,” a description of the company on Upward Broadband’s website states. “We’re a local, family-owned company with a strong set of values that guide everything we do. For you, that means you’ll be dealing with a company that does the right thing, not the easiest or most profitable.”
