Sheffield Wednesday’s current crisis has been branded as a ‘disgrace’ as five factors point towards warning signs at Hillsborough.
Sheffield Wednesday’s summer has been tumultuous so far, with the Owls’ preparations for the 2025/26 Championship season severely hampered.
The first team has been stripped apart, as Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba were sold for a fee far below their market value, while Michael Smith and Josh Windass have since departed on a free transfer.
Not only have the players been left in the dark regarding their future, but the supporters have been shoved to the side, with the lack of pre-season friendlies, as well as uncertainty with the state of Hillsborough Stadium.
In fact, there is a catalogue of issues that have seen Sheffield Wednesday’s current situation turn into an ‘unacceptable’ mess.

Sheffield Wednesday’s current situation under the stewardship of Dejphon Chansiri has seen the club attempt to survive day-to-day. Staff go about their business with the understandable insecurity of whether they will be paid.
The issues have brewed towards a hostile atmosphere in S6, with Chansiri being targeted as the person to blame.
Reflecting on the situation, journalist Dom Howson wrote on X about the litany of issues facing the club, including the suggestion that there is ‘no leadership from the top’.
Howson then went on and wrote: “What’s happening at Sheffield Wednesday is a disgrace and the fans deserve so much better. It’s totally unacceptable.”

❌ No clarity on the manager situation
❌ No new signings

It is now two weeks until the start of the 2025/26 Championship season, and it is safe to assume that Sheffield Wednesday are far less prepared than their counterparts in the second tier.

There is no confidence amongst Sheffield Wednesday supporters at this moment that preparation for the upcoming season has been sufficient, and you cannot blame them.
The situation at Sheffield Wednesday could have easily been eased if there had been communication throughout the club, but they are almost operating behind closed doors.
Social media updates from the club are incredibly infrequent, and updates surrounding key figures of the club are yet to be done.
Damage limitation could be undertaken by the club by being transparent with the supporters – they do not expect the situation to be turned around overnight, they simply yearn for transparency.
